Who we are
Jess Hunter- Founder, Early Years Teacher and L3 Forest School Leader
Hello, I’m the founder and lead teacher at Wildlings. I’ve worked with children and families for over 26 years in a variety of roles across the early years and primary sector. My journey has included time as an Early Years Teacher in a specialist nursery school, a Reception/Year One teacher, a Forest School Leader, a higher level teaching assistant, a play scheme leader, a family link worker for Barnardo’s, and a childminder. Each of these experiences has shaped the vision for Wildlings and deepened my belief in the power of connection, curiosity, and nature-based learning.
During my 12 years at the nursery school, I was also part of the senior leadership team and led the development of Forest School and outdoor learning across the school. I was the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) lead for early years in Bristol, supporting other educators across the city through training, workshops, and mentoring. I’ve worked closely with student teachers and newly qualified teachers over the years too, offering guidance and support as a learning mentor.
I’m a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader, with a deep-rooted passion for sustainability and protecting our precious natural resources. At Wildlings, I’m committed to weaving environmental awareness into everything we do – helping children develop a sense of responsibility and love for the world around them. From small everyday choices to big conversations about our planet, I believe in teaching children how to care for the Earth through action, empathy, and connection.
My role at Wildlings is both strategic and deeply hands-on – I’m here every day, leading our team, shaping the environment, and sharing in the wonder of children’s discoveries. I hold the vision of Wildlings at the heart of what I do, ensuring our ethos runs through every part of the setting – from the way we plan and reflect, to the way we welcome each child.
Outside of Wildlings, I’m a busy mum to three brilliant children, and I live with my lovely husband and our two adventurous dogs. We love heading off in our camper van whenever we can, finding new places to explore and unwind together. I volunteer at the local school’s PTA and run a gardening club for the children at the school and I find joy in cooking for our lovely friends.
Jane Hayman - Childminding Assistant, Teacher, ELSA Support
Hello, I’m Jane and I live nearby with my husband, 2 daughters, 4 guinea pigs and 2 ducks. Originally a primary school teacher, I’ve recently been working as a teaching assistant, supporting pupils with their emotional literacy. I believe in providing all children with a safe, supportive and nurturing environment from an early age, inspiring them to become curious learners who will thrive in their current and future settings. Forming strong bonds with children and their families and building a sense of community are at the heart of what I do. When not with the children, you can usually find me in the garden or curled up with a good book, although collecting shells on a Cornish beach is what I love doing most!
